Columbus State University Admissions
Columbus State University had an undergraduate admissions deadline of July 22 for the fall 2005 semester. Students applying for later terms will need to check with the school for the exact date. The application fee is $25. Applications can be submitted on-line. Students who are enrolled in high school at the time of application will need to have their official final high school transcripts sent after graduation to the Admissions Office.
As part of their application, students should submit high school transcripts and ACT or SAT test scores. Students should have completed the Georgia requirement for high school courses as follows: 4 units of English, 4 units of mathematics, 3 units of history and social studies, 3 units of science, and 2 units of a foreign language. Students must also generally meet the following minimum requirements: SAT scores of 2450 verbal and 420 math (increasing for Summer 2006 and after), or ACT scores of 18 English and 17 math (also increasing for summer 2006 and after). Students who have not completed the basic curriculum can take the SAT II in subject areas and be admitted with certain minimum scores.
Transfer students and international students will have varying requirements depending upon their prior educational background.
Students applying to the graduate programs at Columbus State University should consult the individual department and/or school to which they are applying. Applications can be submitted on-line, and the application fee is $25. General requirements include the GRE or other appropriate test scores (such as the GMAT) and a bachelor’s degree. Other materials may be required by the department. Students should consult the calendar in the university catalog for the specific application deadline.
Columbus State considers “traditional freshmen” as applicants who are graduates of an accredited high school and who graduated within the past five years. If the applicant has previously attended another institution but accumulated less than 30 hours of credit, he/she is still considered a “traditional freshman.” Such applicants are required to have completed 16 hours of college preparatory curriculum, score at least 870 on the SAT or 18 on the English portion and 17 on the mathematics portion of the ACT, and have a Freshman Index of 1940 or more. This Freshman Index is calculated by adding the total SAT score to 500 times the applicant’s high school grade point average. The Index can also be calculated by multiplying the applicant’s ACT score by 42, adding 88, and then adding the result to 500 times the applicant’s high school grade point average. If an applicant does not meet these requirements, a referral can be made to the University’s Department of Basic Studies, where they will receive academic support to ensure their success in a university setting. Students who are enrolled in the College of Basic Studies when they have completed all necessary support curriculum as well as 30 hours of degree credit with a grade point average of at least 2.0.
